Harbor View began the year by performing a Waste Assessment to figure out how much trash -- and how much recyclable material -- is thrown away each day.

In the first year of the grant program, Harbor View Elementary will:

Begin recycling classroom/office paper, newspaper, cans, and bottles.
Launch a “Waste Free Wednesday” lunch campaign to reduce lunch waste
Make the weekly Harbor View Highlights available only electronically
The members of Harbor View’s Student Council will also:
Introduce the program at Back to School Night
Hold a school-wide recycling contest
Organize a community newspaper drive
