Bradley’s Waste Assessment
Step 1 -- Weigh All the TrashUsing a simple bathroom scale, all the trash produced in one 24-hour period was weighed with the students’ help.
Total trash produced in one day: 156 lbs.77 lbs. of classroom trash74 lbs. of lunch/breakfast trash(does not include food waste, which goes down the garbage disposal)
Step 2 -- Sort it!
Using gloves, the students sorted a bag of classroom trash into two different categories:

recyclables - paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, etc.
non-recyclables - plastic bags, paper towels, laminated paper, etc.
The Results:Bradley learned that 70% of their classroom trash is actually recyclable -- that’s equal to 250 pounds a week!
