| Background Information |
The extra responsibility of green activities is a time-intensive commitment. During our monthly phone calls, we are able to provide guidance and share experiences from other schools, but the projects will ultimately depend on you. Our experience has showed it's best to work with schools that have already started down the road to "being green" and proved their ability to successfully put their plans into action. What "green" efforts, if any, have you already undertaken at your school? Which have been completed, and which are still underway? (Recommended minimum 250 word answer.) |
| Tell us about yourself. Why do you want to be a part of this program? What makes your school a good fit? Do you have a student green team? (Recommended minimum 250 word answer.) |
Optional: Include a letter of reference from students, parents, or faculty members at your school that indicates their willingness to participate in the program and how they would do so. Send it in to Green Up Our Schools by fax (303-648-6448) or mail to Green Up Our Schools, 921 Walnut St., Suite 220, Boulder, CO 80302. |

| Waste Reduction Projects | |||||||||
For those projects that have been completed by other schools, we have put together step-by-step best practices to help guide you through the process. Please take a moment to read through each description to find the one that's the best fit for your school.
|
|||||||||
Year 1
Recommended projects for Year 1 include anything related to reducing paper usage, such as the double-sided
copying campaign, scratch paper reuse boxes, etc. Please make sure to choose a project that your school is NOT
already doing.

| 2nd waste reduction project: | |||||||||
|
Please explain why you chose these two projects. What were your thoughts when you looked over the instructions for each of these projects? Why are these a good fit for your school? What steps, if any, have you already taken towards these goals?
|
|||||||||
Year 2
This is a good time for projects that require a lot of advance planning, such as lunchroom changes and electronic
communication between faculty & parents. This allows for preparation in Year 1 and the possibility of carrying the project into Year 3
should more time be needed.

|
|||||||||
Year 3
Recommended projects for Year 3 are those requiring less time, such as reusable classroom party kits or the paper
towel reduction project. By this time in the program, part of your energy will be focused on maintaining the first 4 projects
from Years 1 and 2.

| Promotional Activities | |||||||||
Do you already have such a group at your school? If not, what will it look like? How will it be formed? How often do you plan to meet, and where? |
|||||||||
If your school is accepted into the program, you will be asked to choose promotional activities for Year 2 and 3 upon the completion of Year 1. Pre-selected boxes are suggestions based on the successes of other elementary schools. Feel free to customize the plan to better fit your individual school. |
